District Nurses are qualified nurses with further specialised training and are experienced in provision of nursing care in the community. District Nurses help housebound patients, bedridden patients and patients requiring post operative care.
The principle roles of a District Nursing team are:
Planning of care programs with agreed objectives that are set in partnership with patients and their family/carers that aim towards either:
a) A full recovery
b) Enabling individuals to maximise their quality of life within the limits of their disease
Or c) Providing dignity and peace for the terminally ill

Health Visitors are qualified nurses with further specialised training and are experienced in child health, health promotion and health education. Health Visitors help families with young children.
Health Visitors are part of the NHS community health services and they work closely with G.Ps, Practice Nurses, District Nurses, School Health Nurses, Midwives, Social Workers and School Teachers.
You can get access to your Health Visitor through your G.P surgery or health clinic.
