Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Practice update
We currently have members of our team off work as a result of being unwell or self-isolating – this clearly affects our ability to maintain our service.
Please be patient with staff who are doing their very best.
We are receiving very large numbers of requests for medication – much more than we would normally expect. Many of the requests are a long way ahead of when they are due. Please DO NOT order medication too soon and please do not stockpile. Patients who are ordering too much or too early are putting the health of others at risk.
We are receiving a lot of medication requests on paper – we want to reduce that as much as possible to protect our staff. We would prefer online requests or email to email@example.com - obviously our staff shortages mean that answering the phone to take medication requests will take them away from other tasks.
If you have been allocated a time for a face to face appointment please do not arrive too early for the appointment – you will either have to wait in your car or outside the building. We do not want the waiting room full of patients as it places patients and staff at risk. Some patients coming to the surgery will have underlying health conditions that place them at high risk and we do not want them to have to share a waiting room with other, potentially infectious, patients.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak we will be operating in a different way.
We want to minimise the number of patients attending the Practice for face-2-face appointments, this is to help delay the spread of the virus and to protect staff at the Surgery so they can continue to support patients over the coming weeks.
We will no longer be offering routine Face-2-Face GP appointments instead we will offering a telephone triage appointments. This means that all patients are required to contact the practice by telephone to request an appointment, providing details of their need. A member of the clinical team will then phone you back to discuss your need, and wherever possible this need will be met over the telephone.
If the clinician deems that you require a face to face appointment, you will be asked some screening questions to determine whether there is a need for a coronavirus assessment. If this is the case you will be asked to self-isolate for 7 days. If there is no risk you will be given a face to face appointment.
We are asking all patients not to attend the practice without prior agreement from a member of our clinical team.
This is a very challenging time for us all and we would appreciate your co-operation during this period of uncertainty.

Forest Heath Primary Care Network (PCN)
Since the NHS was created in 1948, the population has grown and people are living longer. Many people are living with long term conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, or live with mental health problems and may need to access their local health services more often.
To meet these needs, practices have begun working together and with community, mental health, social care, pharmacy, hospital and voluntary services in their local areas in primary care networks.
Primary care networks build on the core of current primary care services and enable greater provision of proactive, personalised, coordinated and more integrated health and social care. Clinicians describe this as a change from reactively providing appointments to proactively caring for the people and communities they serve. Where emerging primary care networks are in place in parts of the country, there are clear benefits for patients and clinicians.
From 1st July 2019 a local primary care network has been formed between Brandon Medical Practice, Forest Surgery, The Surgery – Lakenheath, The Market Cross Surgery, Oakfield Surgery, Orchard House Surgery, The Reynard Surgery and Rookery Medical Centre serving our combined 71,000 patients in Newmarket, Mildenhall, Brandon and the surrounding villages. We have two Clinical Directors who will plan and lead us in having a real impact on the shape of primary care in our local area. Part of this will be through better collaboration as we are able to employ more specialist clinical staff than a single practice could do alone.

Our CQC Inspection 2018
Brandon Medical Practice has been inspected by the Care Quality Commission. The Care Quality Commission undertakes a regular inspection programme of all health care providers.
We are pleased to announce that following our latest inspection in April 2018 the practice has received an overall ‘Good’ rating.
